This was a fundraising night for the Wild Hornets, which sends all of the contributed funds to help the Ukrainian defence effort, without administrative overhead or expenses that other charities may have and is fully a volunteer effort. Even the T-shirts were donated. Most of the drones and components are made in Ukraine and there is a goal to increase this percentage to also help the local economy which has been facing difficulties due to the unjustified and tragic invasion by Russia.
The war against Ukraine is largely about maintaining a neo-Soviet regime in power in Russia and unwisely resisting the kinds of reforms which Ukraine carried out since 2014 with its popular de-communization policy, which was adopted and carried out officially by former President Poroshenko. Russia is a huge country with vast resources and does not need any land from Ukraine.
The Leninopad - removal of Lenin statues was a popular movement which started in Ukraine in late February 2014, and the Russian invasion took place exactly 8 years later, indicating the purpose as being to resist reforms to the neo-Soviet system in Russia, and an attempt to maintain the unjust and brutal Soviet past and the broken ideology of Marxism.
The reform movement spread from Ukraine to Belarus which had been long governed by the Marxist dictator Lukashenko, who is under western sanctions. He lost the 2020 election by a wide margin to popular reformist Svitlana Tichanovskaya, but he refused to accept defeat, falsified the results and did not give up power, instead using harsh repression to suppress the 2020-2021 mass protests, with the assistance of forces from Russia.
The war against Ukraine took place a year later and it seems to be an attempt to stop the reform movement and a way for the neo-Soviet regime in Russia to maintain its control and suppress its own people. One might argue that suppressing the rights of the Russian people was the real purpose of the 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
In 2025 in the Moscow subway they put up a new statue of bloody Soviet dictator Stalin (née Dzugashvilli), indicating the direction which Putin has been taking the country.
What a new Stalin statue says about Russia's attempt to reshape history | BBC News 29 May, 2025
• What a new Stalin statue says about Russia...
The Stalin statues were originally removed in the Soviet Union during the Khrushchev era in the 1950s due to the brutality and genocides like the Holodomors of 1929-33 and 1946-47 in which Stalin admitted to Churchill that 10 million people were deliberately starved to death over 4 years during the first of his major artificial famines. The 1946-47 Holodomor famine-genocide had an estimated 1 to 1.5 million people starving to death in similar circumstances to the earlier Holodomors, but in a milder form. Although discussing them was harshly suppressed during the Soviet occupation period, the Holodomors now are recognized as historical events by many countries including Canada and the USA, and Ukraine after its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.
Rehabilitating Stalin as Putin has been trying to do is trying to whitewash the worst period of Soviet history in terms of human rights abuses, arbitrary arrests and executions of innocent people, numerous slave labour gulags, unprecedented mass suffering and communism at its worst. Khrushchev himself was close to Stalin and took part in his atrocities, including mass genocidal famines, but he tried to distance himself from those abuses when he came to power, denouncing Stalin, because of their unprecedented severity in human history. Putin has also been trying to make a cult of the Soviet WW2 victory and using it to revive communist sentiments of the past.
It was after WW2 that the USA and other western countries became more aware of the danger that communism posed to the rest of the world, and it resulted in the Cold War which lasted until the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. For Russia and China the Cold War never ended, however, although the west let its guard down, which it has started to realize was a mistake. According to Marxism peace only will exist if the world becomes fully communist and up to then it is war in one form or another. In other words, Marxism does not believe in peace actually and is a self-destructive ideology which is in perpetual conflict with any and all others. This is just one example of the many contradictions of that broken ideology, which is an artificial construct, and a false view of the world. For Ukraine, Russia, China or any other country it is a very harmful ideology which undermines their future.
This is the first major drone volunteer organization in Ukraine which started in 2014 after the Revolution of Dignity.
