Описание: (26 Jun 2016) Onlookers lined up early and police ramped up security Sunday to get ready for New York City's famous gay pride parade, a march that would be both a celebration of barriers breached and a remembrance of the lives lost in a shooting at a gay nightclub in Florida.
Sunday's parade in New York is unfolding two weeks after an Orlando gay nightclub became the site of the nation's deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.
Many of those who lined up on the parade route discussed what pride meant to them encouraging others to never "let anyone make you feel less than yourself."
Security surrounding the parade has been stepped up following the shooting in Orlando, yet onlookers said they felt safe.
Many will watch the parade near the historic Stonewall Inn, which President Barack Obama recently announced will become the first national monument to gay rights.
A 1969 police raid on the bar helped catalyze the gay rights movement.
