Tensions are rising between China and the US over Tibet. Earlier this week, a US Congressional delegation, including former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, met the Dalai Lama in Dharamshala, the seat of the Tibetan government-in-exile. Yesterday, India's PM Narendra Modi hosted the delegation in New Delhi. This is seen as a way for the US to put pressure on China regarding Tibet. India facilitated the meeting, which some see as a shift in New Delhi's position towards Beijing. China responded with President Xi Jinping visiting a Tibetan temple in Western China. Xi Jinping emphasised the need to "Sinicize" religion in China, which means to make something Chinese in character and form.

The US recently passed the "Resolve Tibet" Act, which calls for dialogue between China and the Dalai Lama and authorizes funding to counter Chinese disinformation about Tibet. The US and India appear to be coordinating their efforts to put pressure on China regarding Tibet. However, China is showing no signs of backing down on its claims to Tibet.
