It only takes a few seconds to secure our most precious cargo.
And according to the national highway traffic safety administration – most of us are doing it wrong.
Before your next car ride, check for these three common mistakes.
First – is the seat installed correctly – with little wiggle-room?
If it moves more than an inch you want to make sure it's snuggly in the vehicle…
second – is the child in the right seat?
Consider their height, weight, and age.
The seat manufacturer will list those recommendations.
Remember these hard-and-fast rules.
Parents are recommended to keep their child rear facing for as long as possible and should stay in the backseat until they're 13.
Finally – is the child restrained the right way?
Rear facing, those straps should be at or below the child's shoulder. Forward, you want to make sure the tether is connected to the front and the straps are at the right area for the child. Also, make sure the straps are appropriately secure.
