Meet Halyna Kaplenko a 16 year old who grew up in Bakhmut with her mother and older brother.
In 2022, her family had no plans to leave. Just a few months before the full-scale invasion, Halyna’s aunt and cousin moved to Bakhmut from Donetsk, and her grandparents joined them soon after. They even bought a new apartment there. The family had just celebrated this small piece of stability — and then the invasion began.
