Nowhere is the tradition more alive than in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas and Missouri. In this week’s “From the Vault” segment, musician, educator, and country music legacy Mark Jones offers a 1973 archival recording of Ozark original singer-songwriter Jimmy Driftwood performing his well known song “The Battle of New Orleans,” from the Ozark Folk Center State Park archives.
Author, folklorist and songwriter Charley Sandage presents an historical portrait of the people, events and indomitable spirit of Ozark culture that resulted in the creation of the Ozark Folk Center State Park and its enduring legacy of music and craft. In this episode, Charley speaks with Ozark Folk Center master printer Troy Odom about the techniques of early printing presses.

In this video, singer-songwriter Willi Carlisle performs his song "Boy Howdy, Hot Dog" at an intimate matinee performance in the Ozark Folk Center State Park Craft Village.

It's customary for guest performers at the Ozark Folk Center to perform in the Craft Village on the afternoon before their evening show in the main auditorium. The Craft Village stage area is very small and provides visitors an opportunity to experience some of the world's finest acoustic musicians, quite literally face to face.
