On today's episode we have a car that was supposed to change everything. America's first production turbocharged V8. The 1980 Pontiac Trans Am Turbo was the Indianapolis 500 pace car. It starred in Smokey and the Bandit II. It made 210 bhp from a turbocharged 4.9-litre V8. Pontiac thought they'd built something revolutionary. But Europe had already perfected turbo technology. A Swedish family saloon and a German super saloon were both lighter, both smarter, both faster. The Trans Am entered Europe through grey market imports and it got DESTROYED.
