After the March 2025 agreement expired on the 01/01/2026, fighting erupted in the city of Aleppo between the Syrian Transitional Government and the Syrian Democratic Forces, leading to the expulsion of the latter from the city. Weeks later, fighting further to the east erupted again, this time culminating in the dissolution of the SDF and the end of the AANES project.
