Georgia mother Debbie Collier appeared calm and unafraid during a trip to a Family Dollar within 24 hours of her sudden death, authorities said Monday, as the mystery into the disturbing homicide case deepened.
Collier was reported missing on Sept. 10, the same day she entered the store in Clayton shortly before 3 p.m., according to the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office, which released surveillance footage of the outing.
Debbie Collier was seen at a Family Dollar store just 13 miles north of the crime scene.
Footage of the shopping trip shows Collier purchased several items from the store and was in and out within 15 minutes, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
“In the video, the victim appears to be calm and not in fear of anything,” the sheriff’s office said, according to the AJC. She was also reportedly alone in her SUV when she walked into the store, police said.
Police are spotted responding to the crime scene in in Habersham County, where Collier's body was found with a red tote bag and blue tarp.
A towing service arrives to take Collier's SUV on Sept. 11 after she was reported missing.
Debbie Collier was reportedly alone in her SUV before she was found dead in a ravine.
Collier was found dead in a ravine about 60 miles from her Athens home on Sept. 11 after she wired her daughter $2,385 along with the alarming message, “They are not going to let me go, love you.”
The store is about 13 miles north of the wooded area where Collier was found, said authorities, who now believe she died between 3:09 p.m. Sept. 10 and 12:44 p.m. the next day.
Amanda Bearden, Collier’s daughter, revealed she received money and an eerie message from her mother.
While inside the chain store before her death, she bought a tarp, a torch lighter, a rain poncho and a reusable tote bag, the sheriff’s office said, according to NBC News.
The news outlet reported her body was found with a red tote bag and blue tarp, but it is unclear if those are the items purchased at the Family Dollar.
