Описание: Sparrow, a cute orphan baby bat plays after a feed.
Sparrow is a Grey-Headed Flying-Fox orphan who was found on the ground near an electrocuted mum. She had some minor burns on her wings.
She was raised by a wildlife carer and was released through a creche system when she was about 5 months old.
When the babies are 3 months old, they go to creche with the other orphans of the season. They learn how to be bats again and they shrug off their human conditioning and their human mums.
In the wild, at this stage of their lives they'd be separating from their batty mums and becoming more independent and more interactive with the other members of the colony. We mimic this in care and allow the hand raised babies to integrate with other bats and other babies.
When they are a certain size and emotionally mature, uninjured and ready, the get put into a release cage under a large colony, the hatch will be opened, and the bats can fly out and integrate with the colony. If they can't find enough food there will always be food to support feed them, hanging on the outside of the cage, for as long as they come back, and until the colony flies out for winter.
