Dogtanian recovers, but has to leave his horse to pay the hotel bill. While walking to Paris, he is splashed by a passing coach, although the beautiful girl travelling in the coach apologises. On arriving to Paris, he is unable to get to see M. de Treville, Captain of the Muskehounds, without his letter of introduction. Penniless, he has to sleep in the street, and is woken by water falling on him. It turns out to be Juliet, the girl in the coach, watering her plants.
