'Wipe Out' features a memorable guitar hook and drum beat set in a 12 bar blues. Our arrangement was written to emphasize these two aspects. The melody is based around an eighth note picking pattern. By adding a strummed (and held to ring out) chord on beats 1 and 2, we can build a thicker sound. The break down incorporates a strummed rhythmic pattern using muted string hits and percussive hits on the ukulele's neck. This is done to simulate the drum break down. You will also be comping every other bar by hitting the chord on the 1 beat, just as heard on the original record. Comping is a technique widely used in Jazz. During drum or bass solos, the guitarist or keyboardist will provide the chord structure underneath the soloist.
