We must have seen or heard that some countries drive on the left side of the road, which seems very strange for people that are from the country where they drive on the right side. This video gives the primary reason for this phenomenon.
Driving on the left side of the road originated in the 18th century in England, when horse-drawn vehicles were the primary mode of transportation. It allowed them to carry weapons such as a sword in their right hand, which was more convenient for defense against potential threats.
As the British Empire expanded, it exported this practice to its colonies, which is why many former British territories, including India, Australia, and New Zealand, still drive on the left. Other countries, such as Japan, also adopted left-side driving because of the influence of the British Empire.
