Описание: In a major political and legal development in Karnataka, a special court has convicted Congress MLA Vinay Kulkarni in the high-profile murder case of BJP leader Yogesh Gowda.

The verdict was delivered by a Special Court for MPs and MLAs nearly nine years after Gowda, a district panchayat member, was brutally murdered inside a gym in Dharwad in June 2016.

Kulkarni, who was serving as a minister at the time of the incident, was named a key conspirator in the case. Along with him, several others have also been convicted, while two accused were acquitted.

The case was initially probed by local police before being transferred to the CBI in 2019. The agency examined over 100 witnesses and arrested Kulkarni in 2020. He later spent more than nine months in jail before being granted bail by the Supreme Court.

Despite the case, Kulkarni went on to win the Dharwad Assembly seat in 2023. With this conviction, he now faces the possibility of losing his legislative position, with sentencing expected tomorrow to determine his next course of legal and political consequences.
