Is Afghanistan a safe place to visit in 2025? Most western governments say no but an increasing number of YouTubers and Travel Vloggers say yes, but these guys have been getting some pretty hardcore backlash. In this short video I do a little research and come to my own conclusions.

WHO I AM--
Howdy! I’m Pete. I grew up in Elizabeth, South Australia. My pop was an amateur cameraman and I loved borrowing his gear when I was a kid. I moved to London in 2006 to attend Met Film School (Ealing Studios) and had some success making commercials after graduating; winning three consecutive Mofilm awards at Cannes Lions. I created MAKERS (2015) for Channel 4 (UK) and my debut feature doc THE NEW BREED (2020) premiered at the Sustainable Living Film Festival. My narrative feature film THE LAST GRIND / (AKA EMOTION IS DEAD) world premiered at the Adelaide Film Festival in 2023, screened in cinemas Australia-wide and is currently streaming on APPLE TV+.

TRANSCRIPT—
One of the big questions I’ve been trying to answer over the last few weeks is— How safe is it to travel to Afghanistan in 2025.
The Australian government has a strict DO NOT TRAVEL policy for the whole country, siting high threats of terrorism, kidnapping and arbitrary detention, but everyone I speak to inside Afghanistan tell me it’s never been safer.
So, to help answer this question I’ve turned to the one source that can be relied on for journalistic integrity and the most up to date reporting— And that’s YouTube.
Western YouTubers have been travelling back into Afghanistan over the last few years and their all sharing a similar message— That Afghanistan is safe, friendly and beautiful.
But there’s been some backlash— Some critics say the Taliban are using western travel influencers to legitimise their government and divert attention away from human rights issues.
Trying to make sense of these conflicting safety and the ethics concerns is pretty impossible from the outside—
So I’m gonna take the advice of the Royal Society of London— Their motto is— NULLIUS IN VERBA, which means— Take nothing on authority— Go find out for yourself.
