On July 21, 2022, the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a request for assistance from the Citrus County Sheriff's Office in apprehending an armed robbery suspect identified as Jeromee Wade Greenough. Troopers Eric Kjekstad and Frank Melillo were the responding Florida State Troopers to a checkpoint set up by the CCSO at Fort Island. Mr. Greenough was tracked using a GPS device that was placed in his bag by the bank teller who was robbed at gunpoint by the suspect.
