(1 Mar 2022) Ukraine's ambassador to Israel said on Tuesday that he was pleased Israel has sent 100 tons of humanitarian aid to Ukraine, but added that Israel was moving too slowly on items Ukraine needs, including helmets and other protective gear.
Yevgen Korniychuck told reporters that the Israeli government was considering the requests, but said "this is a very, very urgent matter".
"You cannot sit and deliberate for weeks," Korniychuck said, adding that he is being "very diplomatic," because his family is in Ukraine and talks are sensitive.
Ukraine also wants Israel to block Russian television inside Israel.
He and other Ukrainian officials in Tel Aviv on Tuesday said they understand Israel is trying to walk a tightrope between helping Ukraine and not inflaming Russia.
Israel has relations with both countries and coordinates its military operations in Syria with Russia.
Russian strikes pounded the central square in Ukraine’s second-largest city of Kharkiv and other civilian sites on Tuesday.
At the same time, a 40-mile convoy of hundreds of Russian tanks and other vehicles advanced on the capital, Kyiv, in what the West feared was a bid to topple Ukraine's government and install a Kremlin-friendly regime.
Day six of the biggest ground war in Europe since World War II found Russia increasingly isolated by tough economic sanctions that have thrown its economy into disarray and left the country practically friendless, apart from China and Belarus.
