Softball Drills - Infield/Outfield Communication Drill

Описание: Infield-Outfield Communication Drill: This is a great drill to help develop your infielders and outfielders working on their communication skills for those short fly balls that usually fall in between them

Setup of Drill: Setup an entire infield and outfield. Have a coach hitting or throwing fly balls into those gaps in between your infielders and outfielders.

Step 1: Coach can stand in the pitchers circle in order to accurately place balls in certain locations on the field. Coach can hit or throw these fly balls into those gaps in between the infielders and outfielders. Ex. 2nd baseman and Right fielder, Short Stop and Left Fielder.

Have players call the ball, who are able to make the play. Player who feels like they can make the play will yell “MINE”. Player who doesn’t feel like they won’t be able to make the play, will yell the other players name who feels like they have a better chance at catching the ball in order to avoid any confusion who is tracking the ball and worse case, avoid a collision between players.

Step 2: If both players are calling for the ball and no one is backing off, this is where you need to let all your players know, that the Outfielders always have right of way, because running forwards is always easier then running backwards, or back tracking. This is where the reps, of doing this drill over an over and placing those balls accurately in those places right in between your players, will help simulate these game like situations, where they need to decide whose ball it is and give right of way to that player.
