A final Message to the 2019 Year 12 Cohort

"I am you year (comma) leader"

I am your year leader
For I have stood before you for 5 years
And it tears me to tell you that the end of our appointment together is near
Only now is this experience becoming so clear
In fear that you will one day never see me here
Yet...
I look forward to this end.
Not to say goodbye and never see you again
But rather to reflect on what's done, I cannot comprehend
How time escapes us, but I guess it all depends...

Did you enjoy your time? With me as your year leader?

I'll appreciate the memories created, embedded in my mental hard drive,
a gigabyte of hard times, megabytes of tasks I
spent nights trying to accomplish
In order to overcome this system we exist in, sometimes falling to my knees, why?

Was it worth it? With me as your year leader?

I've made choices in my role, the good, the bad
Our conversations were a toll, which burdened not I,
but rather the efforts endured to resolute issues, the good, the bad
I've stepped up to support our cohort,
competent, unbroken, confident, outspoken
Voices heard from a distance…

Did you listen? With me as your year leader?

During the years I've built resilience,
more so in the recent 23 million seconds.
It's beckoned us to falter but instead its altered,
more than just the path to my lessons, rather the lessons in my path.
I've seen your frustrations
Let me endure them for you.

Have I done enough? With me as your year leader?

The bell has sounded, the doors wide open,
ready to embrace what lies beyond this moment, beyond the HSC,
beyond all that is tertiary beyond what is right now…
The advice? Have no vice.
After all that I have learnt being your year leader…
I will always find my feet
But the goal is to find my purpose

How so, does a comma change perspective
Incepted in a way that now I get the directive

After years...
I guess now as we move on to our next chapter

I am proud to say that

WE ARE YOUR YEAR comma Leader.
