In this latest stimulus bill and stimulus check update, I break down Patriot Pay, the proposal from Senator Mitt Romney that I think has a good chance of becoming another new stimulus bill.

Patriot Pay gives a stimulus check to essential workers. Here are some of the key features of Patriot Pay:

All essential workers would get a stimulus check bonus equal to $12 per hour on top of their regular pay.
This stimulus check bonus would be a max of $1,920 per month
The Patriot Pay proposal would last from May through July, unless extended
Patriot Pay stimulus check would be paid for by employers via a refundable payroll tax credit
In order to receive Patriot Pay, you need to be an essential worker, work at least 100 hours per month, and make less than $50k. If you make between $50k and $90k, the Patriot Pay bonus scales down until you hit $90k, then you get no additional hazard pay.

What workers qualify as "essential" under the Patriot Pay stimulus bill? Who will get a Patriot Pay stimulus check will be determined by Congress and the Department of Labor.

The goal of the Patriot Pay is to provide hazard pay / Hero's Pay to the front-line workers like health care professionals, grocery store workers, and other necessary industries.

Patriot Pay looks to provide a stimulus check to the workers who are not seeing the increased benefits of pandemic unemployment benefits of $600 per week. If you are making below $22 per hour, you would likely make more on unemployment than working. For the front-line workers, this seems unfair, and Patriot Pay aims to solve this stimulus check gap.

I believe Patriot Pay, or something similar to Patriot Pay, has a chance of becoming a new stimulus bill that passes. We can all get behind appreciating those workers who are essential. Is this the right stimulus bill?
