The first film in Melissa Llewelyn-Davies' Maasai cycle examines the role of women in a pastoral society where cattle are the basis of wealth, and where a man's wealth is measured not just by the number of his cattle, but by the number of his wives and daughters, who look after the cattle but have no right to them.
The film focuses on the preparation of young Maasai girls for marriage and explores the feelings of Maasai women about polygamy and their inability to own property.
