A long-overdue exploration of epiphytic cacti: where they’re found (both in their native habitats AND in the plant taxonomic system), what characteristics they share, and how my collection is growing in my home!
*DISCLAIMER! I am in no way an expert in the topic of jungle cacti taxonomy... the numbers of species in each of the genera I talk about in this video is contested and has changed frequently over the years. For example, estimates of unique published rhipsalis species range between 35 and 43 accepted species, depending on the source. Many times, plants have been reclassified into subspecies, some numerous times. I went with the high estimate, but I certainly could be wrong. If you’ve done any research (web or peer-reviewed 😉) on either the Hylocereeae or Rhipsalideae tribes, please share what you’ve found out in the comments!
