Описание: L’abbaye de Saint-Germain a été fondée le 23 avril 558 par le roi mérovingien de Paris, Childebert Ier (4ème fils de Clovis) et saint Germain, évêque de Paris. L’Eglise abbatiale a été construite sur le site de la basilique Mérovingienne Sainte-Croix et Saint-Vincent du 7ème siècle où a été inhumé Childebert 1er et devint le premier mausolée des rois, avant la Basilique-Cathédrale Saint-Denis. Elle garde un des plus vieux clochers de France, édifié de 990 à 1014 (Le clocher de L’abbaye Saint-Pierre de Brantôme en Dordogne date de la fin du Xème ou du début du XIème siècle), une nef largement remaniée, mais qui reste romane, datant de 1025-1030, un chœur gothique précoce bâti de 1135 à 1155 et aussi des arcs boutants très anciens datés autour de 1190. Pour mémoire, l’édification de la Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris a débuté en 1163. L’église Saint-Germain a été très remaniée au cours de sa longue histoire, en particulier au 19ème siècle avec les peintures et fresques murales d’Hippolyte Flandrin et d’Alexandre Denuelle réalisées de 1842 à 1864. Les peintures murales ont été complètement et magnifiquement restaurées de 2016 à 2020. Espérons que cela sera pareil à Notre-Dame ! Musique: Bach, cantate des paysans.

The Abbey of Saint-Germain was founded on April 23, 558 by the Merovingian King of Paris, Childebert I (4th son of Clovis) and Saint-Germain, Bishop of Paris. The abbey church was built on the site of the 7th century Merovingian Basilica of Sainte-Croix et Saint-Vincent where Childebert 1st was buried and which became the first mausoleum of the kings, before the Basilica-Cathedral of Saint-Denis. It keeps one of the oldest bell towers in France, built from 990 to 1014 (The bell tower of Saint-Pierre de Brantôme abbey in the Dordogne dates from the end of the 10th or the beginning of the 11th century), a nave that has been largely reworked, but which remains Romanesque, dating from 1025-1030, an early Gothic choir built from 1135 to 1155 and also very old flying buttresses dated around 1190. For the record, the construction of Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral began in 1163. The Church of Saint-Germain has been extensively remodeled during its long history, particularly in the 19th century with the mural paintings and frescoes by Hippolyte Flandrin and Alexandre Denuelle carried out from 1842 to 1864.
