Every month, the CAPK Food Bank serves over 55,000 families across Kern County. When the recent government shutdown froze benefits for thousands of households, we knew even more families would need help quickly.
In response, we partnered with city and county officials, Kern County Department of Human Services, community leaders, California Army National Guard, and California Volunteers to launch a countywide strategy. Together, we hosted distributions in Bakersfield, Taft, Delano, Ridgecrest, Mojave, and Arvin, reaching more than 12,000 additional families on top of our regular monthly work.
Now that the government has reopened, our mission continues. Food insecurity does not pause, and neither do we.
