Structural Engineering & Construction
Situation 30
To prevent the ladder from sliding down, the man exerts a horizontal force at C. Given: L1 = 4.5m, L2 = 1.5m, ⌀ = 30°
1. Find the horizontal force at C, which the man should exert if the weight of the ladder is 500 N. Assume that surface A and B are frictionless. (577.7 N)
2. If the weight of the ladder is 500 N, what is the reaction at A? Surface A and B are frictionless. (500 N)
3. Find the maximum weight of the ladder that can be held from sliding if the man exerts force C = 200 N. Coefficient of friction at A is 0.30 and at B is 0.20. (421 N).
