The mountains of Mallorca are a very special place : a perfect harmony between wild and civilisation, between nature and man. Alaró is situated at the foot of the mountains and there are remains of an old castle on the top of a large rock, it's very impressive.
This habitat is rather dry and rocky and shows an incredible biodiversity of plants.
It's fascinating to see the changes of flora as you go higher and higher in altitude. I noticed that there were very few tree species and many shrub species. The tree populations you'll find in Alarò are pine trees, oak trees, carob trees and loads of olive trees.
The wild shrubs growing there are typically mediterranean and range from wild rosemary to heather bushes to rockroses to mastic trees... This habitat is so biodiverse and that's what makes it so interesting.
I could observe and study the flora of Alaró for years! There is also a very peaceful and calm atmosphere that I enjoyed a lot.
And I was fortunate enough to catch the rare snow on the mountains. Apparently this is the first time in 17 years that it has snowed so much here so that was a pretty crazy event.
Mallorca is a wonderful island and it's so biodiverse in its habitats, landscapes and plants.
