Most hair oils fall into two categories: treatment and styling. But how can you know which is which? It's easy. Just check the label or the website where you're buying it. If the directions say to use the oil before washing your hair, it's a treatment oil. If it says to use it after styling, it's a styling oil. Styling oils are mainly for making your hair look good, like reducing frizz or adding shine, while treatment oils are more about improving the health of your hair.

2. Choosing a Treatment Oil

Now, let's say you want a treatment oil. What should you look for? Well, if you find an oil that's a mix of different oils (not just one), that's a good start. But the most important thing is to have at least one oil that can penetrate your hair, like coconut oil, olive oil, or avocado oil. These oils can really get inside your hair and make it healthier.

I chose avocado oil as the main ingredient in my hair oil because it's gentle and works for all hair types. Coconut oil can be a bit too heavy, and olive oil can be hard to wash out. Avocado oil leaves your hair super nourished and smooth. But feel free to try different oils to see what works best for your hair.

3. Checking the Ingredients

Now, you might be wondering how to know how much of the penetrating oil is in the blend. Well, look at the ingredient list. The closer the penetrating oil is to the beginning of the list, the more there is in the blend. Even though you won't know the exact amount, if it's the first ingredient, there's a lot of it.
