In this video we run through setting up an integral to give the volume of a solid whose cross sections, perpendicular to the y-axis, are isosceles right triangles with a leg in the xy-plane. Since the functions are given in terms of x we first have to rewrite them in terms of y (solve each for x), find the intersection points (the y-values are the important ones!), work out the geometry of the isosceles right triangles, and set up the integral. We use a calculator to find the intersection points and to evaluate the integral.
