Описание: In the 90's Malagasy authorities promoted Khat as a cash crop - calling it "the future" for areas like Diego Suarez, or Antsiranana in the north of Madagascar. As a result, food production in those areas took a hit as farmers turned to the stimulant plant in the hopes of striking it rich. In turn it has contributed to rising cases of addiction as well as food insecurity.
