This is a look at how to diagnose problems with the cruise control on a 1980s / 1990s GM car. This is specifically for a 1985 Camaro, using the GM factory service manual as a reference. This cruise control system is used in many GM cars in this time frame, with some variations in how it is installed. For other model years may vary some amount. A service manual is highly recommended to diagnose the switches and the throttle adjustments. This video walks through the diagnostics at a high level. I won't test everything, but will show what the general tests are and where components are located. My 3rd Gen Camaro seems to have a problem with the cruise control that I have traced to the switches in the turn signal stalk. I will show the connectors to test.
SAFETY WARNING: When you work on the cruise control system, you must follow the manufacturer's instructions because the system connects to the throttle. If it is not serviced properly, the throttle may not return to idle when it should.
