The Battle of Hill 70 set the Canadian Corps against five divisions of the German 6th Army in the summer of 1917. Lieut.-General Currie, a superb tactician, was ordered to take the town of Lens in northern France. The town was of strategic importance, with the Germans needing it for its rail access, while the British wanted it for its coal, which they needed to support war manufacturing. La bataille de la cote 70 opposa le Corps canadien à cinq divisions de la 6e armée allemande au cours de l'été 1917.
