In today’s debut tutorial, I’ll reveal my method while drawing up some frames from a Nissan Summer of SUVs commercial !

My name is Vinny Dellay and for the past 25 years I have been working in Hollywood as a commercial storyboard artist. That’s right.. TV commercials! Not animation. Not video games. Not film or television (alright… MAYBE once in a blue moon I’ll draw a movie or TV show. Wow. Way to hold my feel over the coals there!).

Why do I draw commercials?

Because they pay so damn well! In 2019 I made $225,000 drawing storyboards for about 110 mindless commercials.

Is it souls sucking?
Sure.

Do I wish I could get paid the same drawing something cool like comic books? Undoubtedly.

Do I wish those sea monkeys that I bought back in third grade had matured into a fully functioning society of humanoid, merman like creatures who worshiped me as a God?
Pffft! Show me a kid didn’t?!

Do I wish the goldfish that died when I poured Epson salt into his tank because I was seven years old and too stupid to realize goldfish don’t live in the ocean was still alive?!
Actually… I’m kind of ambivalent about that one. I mean, I did learn an important lesson about the fragility of marine life that day. Ok… let’s call that one a “no”.
