Navy spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad, answering questions from members of the Rappler Security and Global Affairs channel, calls on Congress to pass measures that would update the country’s antiquated anti-espionage and foreign interference laws.
“We need laws on how to be able to protect our cognitive domain, how to be able to check foreign malign influence,” he tells Rappler.
A Rappler investigative series detailed how three people — two of them defense staffers and the other, a person close to a Philippine Coast Guard personnel — were recruited into spying for foreign nationals whom security officials have identified as Chinese nationals.
