Invasion on the Horizon: Predicting Risk for a New Southeast Invader Invader
Dr. Claudia Nuñez-Penichet is a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Fish and Wildlife Conservation and a member of the Invasive Species Collaborative at Virginia Tech. Her work examines invasive species ecology, dispersal processes, insect–host plant relationships, and broad-scale biodiversity patterns. She uses ecological modeling and simulation approaches to predict ecological change and understand the drivers of species distributions. She also studies how species’ ecological niches evolve and how those shifts affect invasion risk. By integrating quantitative ecology with applied conservation, her research helps improve the management and understanding of biological invasions.
