Confronted by Moscow’s aggression, several NATO states are pursuing very long-range land-attack weapons, including through joint development programmes. However, they face competing imperatives along with unresolved questions about future deterrence and the war-fighting roles of these systems.
In this webinar, the authors of the latest IISS Missile Dialogue Initiative (MDI) research paper explored the capability ambitions and doctrines of ELSA partners France, Germany, Poland and the United Kingdom, and also considered the approaches of fellow partners Italy and Sweden. The authors will evaluate each nation’s technological starting point, their defence-industrial approaches to missile development, their capability ambitions and the motivations behind their ambitions.
