I messed around with my G9 to see if I could get it to switch focus from my face to an object I hold up in front of me and discovered something that is mostly effective. It's simply to add an additional focus box in addition to the face detect box. I controlled the camera with the Panasonic Image app for iPhone. Lens used was the Lumix 12-35 f2.8 II.
