Kaze wo Nuke! Motor Cross Anime (Hidden Gem) - 1988

Find a sub anywhere for this but when i look it up, kaze wo nuke it about a 16 year kid navigating his way through the world of motor bike racing, as he wants to rank up from novice to junior cross.
As soon as I saw this I knew I wanted to talk about it, but all i have to talk about is what i gather quickly from trying to makeout the raw visuals of whats going on..
But most importantly the mechanics and technicals of the racing..
And of course the aesthetics.
It’s very strange honestly tho that this never saw the light of day cause madhouse put it together..
And as you’re seeing that’s not surprising cause..
Look.
But I’ll get on the visuals later.

Now it was hard to even find back story on this anime because theres no reviews..
no wiki page, and it was luck that i found on mal that there was a 13 volume manga it was adapted from..
But a lot of this is not only because it just never found it’s way to a larger audience like many anime never do..
But sports is already a lesser anticipated genre as a whole..
but even deeper than that..
Motorcross is just not that popular a sport.
It’s something I never realized until now.
You have your traditional sports people like..
Then theres like track and field..
And it does get a little more obscure where people might like to watch ATV, or F1 formula whatever..
But when’s the last time someone brought up motor-cross to you?
So it makes a lot of sense.


I don’t know much about motor cross and it’s mechanics..
But this looks pretty accurate to what i would imagine it to be like in real life.
These characters maintainence their bikes, practice, and go out and race in dirt..
no magic, no sci fi fantasy elements added.
And honestly i actually really enjoyed every minute of it.
Like i actually didn’t need to know what the characters were saying or the specifics of the story to really take this in.
You will see the dirt actually fly, and when these bikes take the air.. I know obviously with animation that can get quite dramatic sometimes..
and when accidents happen you can feel it..
Just like for example when you see ATV or rave cars in real life..
Or watching it on TV of course.
In terms of characters..
It’s pretty obvious just by looking at it this is a ambitious kid whose passionate about his bike, and his female interest also is into the hobby too, cause you can see that dynamic shining toward you throughout the body language all during the OVA.

Now the art and animation is anazing as you can.. and it leaves me scratching my head cause someone actually had and uploaded a laserdisc rip of this..
Which is what you’re looking at..
But why on earth has it never been translated?
Wait a minute tho..
Yeah that isn’t fake guys..
Ironically they chose to have a random American spectator in the anime, and they voice acted that one line (28:15, 31:41)
But yeah.
So much attention to detail..
But if course..
it’s madhouse.
This came out in 1988 guys.
I honestly was blown away..
And I’m calling it a hidden gem.
