Supporting someone with an eating disorder can feel confusing, emotional, and overwhelming — especially during meals. What looks like resistance from the outside often feels like fear, panic, and loss of control on the inside. When caregivers begin to understand what their loved one may actually be thinking and feeling, their response changes — and that can shift the entire tone of a meal.
In this video, I take you inside the emotional experience many strugglers describe before, during, and after meals. We also explore something just as important — how caregivers can learn to regulate their own emotions during difficult moments, model steadiness, and help their loved one move through overwhelming feelings rather than being consumed by them. Understanding both sides of the table often brings more clarity, calm, and structure into one of the hardest parts of recovery.
