The Geierköpfe are a range of three peaks north of Plansee in Austria. Along this route, you have the opportunity hit all three peaks - the West Peak, Main Peak, and the East Peak. Near the start of the route, you can also make a tiny detour to the Schönjöchl, which offers stunning views into the Plansee valley. Although the route is undeniably beautiful, it is also quite challenging. The West Peak is the most "accessible" of the three, but the entire ridge traverse is rated as a T5, with some T6 moments as well. If you plan to do the entire ridge, please make sure you're prepared for exposure, scrambling, and slippery gravel along the route. There are no steel cables along this route, and although the trail is easy to follow, you will need to navigate the terrain and exposure yourself.
I personally turned around shortly before reaching the Main Peak. I was dealing with some annoying knee pain, and thought it would be safer and more enjoyable to come back and do the full traverse in a better physical and mental condition. Nevertheless, the tour was absolutely worth it! I would be more than happy to go back some day and do the full route, but in the meantime, I hope that this will inspire some of you to get out there and check it out!
