What does it actually take to preserve historic architecture?
This Q and A focuses on the coalition effort behind the preservation of Central City Plaza in Milwaukee’s Bronzeville neighborhood. Panelists discuss advocacy strategy, historic designation, research methods, community engagement, and the practical realities of preventing demolition.
Central City Plaza, completed in 1973 by Alonzo Robinson Jr., Wisconsin’s first Black licensed architect, faced potential demolition after acquisition by The Salvation Army. In 2025, a coordinated preservation campaign led to its historic designation.
Hosted by AIA Milwaukee and WiscoNOMA.
