Leo Marjane avec Orchestre Wal-Berg (Voldemar Rosenberg) – Music, Maestro, Please – Chanson (A.Wrubel – P.Boyle), Disque Gramophone 1937 (France)
NOTE: Leo Marjane was many times presented in this channel, so I will only mention, she belongs to one of greatest names in history of the 20th century French chanson. With great alto voice and excellent looks she immediately became a concert hall and radio star in the end of the 1930s in France. Unfortunately for her, she was not able to cease her public appearances during the German occupation of France in the years of the second world war. Moreover – her career, backed up by the occupiers - significantly accelerated. She sung on the public propaganda radio, she recorded and she made unlimited public performances not only for the French audiences, but also for German officers. Therefore – after 1945 – her wartime behavior was well remembered and her career waned. Finally, she married a French aristocrat and moved out from Paris, to devote herself to the horse breeding in her husband’s property. Marjane sung not only French songs, but her specialty were French versions of huge international hits, like In the Chapel In the Moonlight, Begin the Beguine, Over the Rainbow or Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen. She has also been forever remembered as the perfect performer of “Je suis seule ce Soir..” (I Am Alone Tonight) - the favorite song of many French women, who were left alone by their men during the war.
