This video demonstrates how easily a strength reduction finite element method (FEM) slope stability analysis can be performed using EnFEM’s import function. In addition to calculating the safety factor, finite element analysis also provides the deformation associated with each safety factor. This allows engineers to select a safety factor based on allowable deformation criteria.
The use of the Finite Element Method (FEM) in routine geotechnical practice can be difficult to justify because of the significant time required to build a model. However, EnFEM’s import function allows users to build an FEM model in just seconds by importing input files generated by conventional Limit Equilibrium Method (LEM) programs such as EnSlope or UTexas4. An input file generated by UTexas4 is used as an example in this video.
