Bit of a cheeky one this - I'd intended on wild camping, but providence had other plans for me....
So the mission was to take Bike to Tory Island, explore the island and wild camp there.
The winds were pretty fierce that day, and the good spot I'd scouted out on the eastern side of the island would have meant no shelter.
At the western end is a lighthouse, and just up from there is Derek Hills Hut - formerly a coastguard signal station, it was used by the late Derek Hill, an English landscape painter, on his frequent visits to Toraigh from 1956. His work provides a record of the islander's life from that time.
The hut stands as a memorial to his life and work there - frozen in time, a museum, but to me it was shelter from the wind, and from the rain that was forecast to come in heavy overnight.....
It's definitely not a bothy.
