We here at High Tech Design Safety are an evaluation, test and certification laboratory for equipment and products. Today our CEO, Steve Barcik Amstel shares about UL 508A.

UL 508A might be important to you if you are designing industrial equipment, industrial machinery, processing equipment and things of that nature. That equipment under the requirements of the national electric code must be suitable for use and UL 508A is the standard for suitable for use for industrial control panels.

Using UL 508A in your design, design reviews and product safety reviews will make things easier since it will allow you to know that you’ll meet conformity at the time of installation.

In order to have the installation of the equipment at your customers site go easy and the electrical inspection that may follow on go easy and be complete, you will need to be sure that you comply with UL 508A and potentially have either a third party laboratory label or a field labeling label on that piece of equipment.

UL 508A encompasses a broad range of requirements for industrial control panels, primarily the electrical requirements around those control panels…how they are operated and installed.

This is the overview of UL 508A and in future training videos, we will go through section by section of UL508A to give you information that will allow you to design products easily to meet this standard.
