Lesang ‘Tail96’ Motlhabane, son of Doreen Motlhabane was born on the 5th of November 1996 in Makgobistaad, Mahikeng. He was a very active pupil in academics and sports during his schooling days but also had an interest in the art of rapping from the age of 8.

When he was 15 years old he relocated and changed schools from Gaetsalwe Primary School in Mahikeng to Rasimone Intermediate School and then to Charora High school in Chaneng,a small village in Rustenburg where he matriculated at in 2018.

During high school, he would bunk classes to pursue a career in music but was faced with the problem of suffering from migraines and seizures every now and then, which also lead him to be put at home and not attend school on a regular basis until he was deemed fit for school.

Musical History
Tail96 was noticed in a street cypher by Sam Molefe, who took him under his wing at Audacious Entertainment and managed him. After learning a set of skills on how to record, produce and manage artists, he started his own record label called ‘Cryptic Gang Entertainment Music Group’, which he still runs to this day.

Prior to his current alias, he used to go by the name ‘Lil Flow Scorpion’ and he changed it due to the fact that there were too many rappers using ‘Lil’ as a prefix to their pseudonyms in the rap game, so he needed a sense of authenticity and derived his name from the tail part of a scorpion which he infused with his year of birth (1996) and all of this gave him ‘Tail96’.

Musical Background
He was inspired by kwaito artists ‘Mzambiya’ and ‘Msawawa’ to become a rap artist. He defines his music style as ‘Traptswaka’, which is a fusion of ‘Motswako’ and ‘Trap’ Hip-hop with a tribal feel on the beats because he tells African stories in his music and he also defines it as “ancestors music”.

Tail96 dropped an EP titled ‘Dreams’ under his label ‘Cryptic Gang Entertainment Music Group’ on the 11th of February 2021 and it has been performing well on digital platforms. He has also featured on projects alongside fellow artists Dee Glory, Nastic Deep, Juju boy, Thequeen, Souljah16, FirstPride, DJ Sabapro, Avibloc, DjMacdeep, Cliffdogg, KeyNotez, and Ekzek BACARD.

His struggles as an artist and producer were getting bookings and finding a skilled and proactive team that he could work with in this music business so he could learn more and advance through the game.

Tail96 is currently working on an album of 12 tracks titled ‘Dignity – F$F’. He is also working on a brand for his record label ‘Cryptic Gang’ and one for his community called ‘Grow Up’.

Musical Career Highlights
Tail96’s music has aired on a few local radio stations and has done well on the charts with singles such as ‘Mandoza’ being at number 1 on Mafisa Fm, number 3 on North West FM, and another single titled ‘Forward’ being number 5 on Motsweding FM. His music has also done well on the digital platform Spotify with the songs ‘You left me’ getting 9,325 streams, ‘Shake it’ getting 4,050 streams, ‘Gets you killed’ getting 3,466, ‘Dreams’ getting 2,777, and ‘Tell me’ getting 1,875 streams.
