The Weapons (2025) is a supernatural horror mystery film by director Zach Cregger. In the small town of Maybrook, Pennsylvania, 17 children exit their homes at 2:17 a.m., each in an eerie “airplane” pose — and vanish. Only one boy, Alex Lilly, remains, and suspicion falls on his third-grade teacher, Justine Gandy (Julia Garner).

Justine’s perspective highlights her isolation and fear. Hounded by angry parents accusing her of witchcraft, she follows Alex to his home and finds the missing children locked motionless inside. Plagued by nightmares and ominous clues, she battles paranoia and even survives a violent ambush as the mystery deepens.

Next, we see Archer (Josh Brolin), a grieving father of one of the missing boys. He reviews surveillance footage and realizes all the children’s paths lead to the same location. When he challenges the school’s principal with this evidence, the principal unexpectedly snaps and attacks Archer and Justine in a shocking outburst. This confirms that something sinister and even supernatural is at work.

Meanwhile, homeless burglar James (Austin Abrams) sneaks into Alex’s home and discovers all seventeen missing children alive but locked in a secret basement. Horrified, he alerts the authorities about this discovery. This leads to a tense late-night police raid, priming the story for its terrifying conclusion.

Alex’s Aunt Gladys (Amy Madigan) is revealed to be a witch. She cursed Alex’s parents and neighbors with dark magic, binding strands of hair to a thorny plant to control them. She forced Alex to bring personal items from each child, completing a spell. At 2:17 a.m., all seventeen children are drawn to Gladys’s basement, where she drains them of life energy.
