On Friday, September 13, 2024, starting at 7pm Eastern, the U.S. World War I Centennial Commission and The Doughboy Foundation presented the "First Illumination Ceremony" of "A Soldier's Journey," the magnificent bronze sculpture that will serve as the centerpiece of the National World War I Memorial on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C.
The event marked the completion of the National WWI Memorial in Washington, D.C. and provides a proud introduction to this incredible memorial tribute to 4.7 million men and women who put on an American uniform, during this consequential moment that initiated the transformation of the United States from an agrarian, relatively obscure country, with a standing military smaller than that of Portugal, into an important global force for freedom and democracy on the world stage.
