Описание: When I was 17, I read about Apo Whang-Od, the legendary mambabatok of Kalinga — the last and oldest traditional tattoo artist in the Philippines. Back then, I promised myself that one day, I would find my way to Buscalan and carry a piece of her legacy on my skin.
Years later, that promise came true. It took me 2 days, 2 flights, 3 buses, 3 taxis, 2 jeepneys, and a 45-minute hike — solo — to reach her remote mountain village. I got lost, I struggled, but every wrong turn brought me closer to something greater.
At 108 years old, Whang-Od has defied tradition, becoming the first woman to master this sacred art once reserved only for warriors. She is a rebel, an artist, and a living legend.
This video is my story of finally being tattooed by Apo Whang-Od — a once-in-a-lifetime experience — and a glimpse into the life, culture, and spirit of Buscalan, Philippines.
