In this fascinating video, Edie The Salsa FREAK interviews world famous Magna Gopal in Zurich, at the Salsa Festival in Switzerland. Edie noticed Magna executing the Black Belt Salsa basic step on the dance floor and wanted to know how and where she learned it. Both go further in-depth about Magna's career, and her feelings about the Salsa industry today.

There is a REASON why Black Belt Salsa (BBS) students are taught to execute their Salsa Basic Step in a "Long, Short Long" fashion for both men and women.

In the early 2000's, Edie, The Salsa FREAK discovered this simple trick over time, to keep up with some of the top leads in the world. It was never taught to her, but she found her speed, lightness, tightness and ability to follow was greatly enhanced when applying this simple basic technique.

Short front step, short back step. Two long steps in between.

This technique (for both On1 and On2 dancers) prevents the dancer from stepping on people's feet behind him or her, and also prevents a massive forward step into their partner's space.

When Edie saw Magna Gopal execute the exact same Salsa basic at the Salsa Festival in Switzerland in 2017, she was excited to talk to her about why and how she came about discovering the exact same step Edie had also discovered through trial and error. Here is their story...
