Why am I getting an error on D2D about the Print ISBN I Own | Self-Publishing Draft2Digital ISBN

Описание: This video is for self-publishing authors. And specifically authors who have added onto their strategy piece by piece. I know not everyone can handle launching all formats on day one and doing all the things. I only did eBooks for the first three years before I added print, and then I added audio. If you are doing all the things all at once out the gate from book one, kudos to you.

So the issue is, that while you can bring your ISBN that you own for your eBook to D2D without issue, and you can bring your ISBN for print to D2D if you’ve never published it anywhere else. D2D advices authors that if the print book is self-published anywhere else you have to use their free one.

Which, class, do we know why that’s a problem:

Because the ISBN is specific to the format, not the distribution platform.

Ding ding ding!!
Example
One book : 3 formats: eBook, Paperback, and Audio. 3 ISBNs. The ISBN goes with the book wherever you elect to distribute it from.

So then why does D2D say to do the opposite?

From the D2D “The Indie Advantage” Newsletter. The issue is the vendor of record. If you have ever at all elected Amazons Expanded Distribution for your print book (I have videos plural about why you shouldnt) but if you already did that, then even if you have opted out of that, your book is already on file with Ingram as being distributed through Amazon.
So then when D2D tries to distribute it, Ingram says, nope someone else has it.

Did that just confuse you?
MK, we’re talking about Amazon and D2D, why are you bringing up Ingram?
Ingram is the network used by Expanded Distribution,. D2D, AND IngramSpark.
It's the SAME print network. (Which is also why you shouldn’t split hairs over this decision. Altho KDP Expanded Distro does seem to be the worst because of the very low royalties from expanded distro. )
It’s all one interconnected web.
D2D provided an exact email copy in their newsletter, I’ll have it below, to use to request your title be released so D2D can distribute it.

From my conversation with a D2D rep at NINC in 2023:
Upload both of them on the same day. You have all the files and your descriptions and details in front of you (or you should). Upload on both platforms on the same day. Do Amazon. Then to D2D. The system won’t catch it within seconds.
